Kayak Club Field Trip - Silver Springs State Park
Friday, April 13, 2018, 07:45am - 11:45am

PADDLE THE SILVER RIVER, Friday, April 13th

SKILL LEVEL - Novice

Our next trip will be on the Silver River, from Silver Springs State Park, to Rays Wayside, via the Fort King Paddle Trail. Google Kayak Silver River for lots of YouTube videos describing the trip. You may see monkeys, gators, lots of turtles and birds.

Meet at the main clubhouse parking lot, east side of the clubhouse by the golf cart parking lot at 7:45 AM, and plan on leaving at 8:00 AM.

RENTAL INFORMATION - Silver Springs State Park, 5656 East Silver Springs Blvd, Silver Springs, Fl.
352-251-5840 for rental information. They do not take reservations.
Price info: Single kayak - $35.00
Shuttle service for those with their own boats is $10.00 per person.

LOGISTICS - We will drive to the park, and those with their own boats will unload quickly and then drive to the take out point where you will leave your car. We will then use the park shuttle to take the drivers back to the launch site. While the drivers are moving their cars, the renters can take care of getting their boats rented, and getting ready to launch. Please wait until the whole group is there before launching, so that we can travel as a group. There are two different trails to take, and we want to all be on the same one.

PADDLE INFO - After launching, we will paddle out to the head spring about a quarter mile, and do a little exploring there. This is where the famous glass bottom boats leave from. We will then leave the headspring and take the Fort King Paddle Trail approx 2 and 1/4 miles to a rest spot where we will pull our boats out and have lunch. After lunch we will finish our journey, about 3 and 1/4 miles to Rays Wayside. The whole trip is 6 miles, with the current, and it is not a hard paddle.

RESTROOMS - One at the launch site, one at the take out point, and a port-a-potty at the lunch break place.

FEES - Parking at Rays Wayside is $5.00 per car. There is a $2.00 admission fee into the park , and a $4.00 Launch fee. I believe that these fees are included with a boat rental but not sure.

LUNCH - Pack a picnic lunch to take in your boat to eat halfway through the paddle.
