St Sebastian River Kayak Trip
Friday, March 13, 2020, 09:00am - 01:30pm
St Sebastian River, 3/13/2020
Launch Site - Dale Wimbrow Park, Airport Dr W, Sebastian, FL 32958
Questions - Giles Snyder
Good trip for novice paddlers
Outfitter - About Kayaks, 25 Airport Dr. W, St. Sebastian (across the street from Dale Wimbrow Park) 772-589-3469 (www.aboutkayaks.net )
Rental prices, including shuttle - Single kayak - $45.00
Tandem kayak - $65.00
For those who have their own boat the shuttle fee is $10.00 per boat and person.
Meet at the main clubhouse parking lot, east side of the clubhouse by the golf cart parking lot at 9:00 AM, and plan on leaving at 9:15 AM.
Lunch - There are picnic pavilions in the park where we will take out, and also where your car will be parked, so I think that maybe a picnic-type lunch after we are done would be good. You can just take a snack in your boat, and leave your lunch in your car until we have finished the paddle.
Reservations - When you make your reservations for rentals, identify yourself as a member of the Lake Ashton Paddle Club, and please send me an email and let me know who is going and whether or not you are renting. Also, if you have your own boat and are only going to use the shuttle also make those reservations.
Bathrooms - In the park, so before we are shuttled to the launch site, and after we return.
After checking in and leaving your car at the office, you will be transported to your choice of two launch sites, depending on how long a trip you'd like to take. Our standard routes take approximately two and three hours. The last launch of the day is at 2:00 pm. The river bends through thick vegetation comprised of subtropical plants, mangroves, oaks, cypress, and palms. The flow rate is typically slow and the river is protected from the wind, so the paddling is typically very easy, even for a beginner.
Along the way you're likely to see many species of water fowl and birds-of-prey including Osprey, Sandhill Cranes, Herons, Egrets, Vultures, and Bald Eagles. Turtles, alligators, and wild boar may be seen sunning themselves. Otters, Raccoons, an occasional Bobcat, and of course, Manatees are seen at different times of year.
When you reach Riverside Church, please call us at (772) 589-3469 from your cell phone. We will be at Dale Wimbrow Park to meet you.
As always, please check your email the morning of the trip for any changes or cancellations. Friends and neighbors are always welcome.
